Desert

Rolling over the hills
There, the night is dark
Hidden
Light your candle with the gentle heavenly stars
And may their meekness guide you through

Flood the dark with your crying tears
Wet the ground with sorrowful pain.
The body is tired, fragile, fainting
Restless

In the desert road of your soul
listen to the cracks in the sand.
There is hope, there is space
to drag your knees for another day

I can hear him moving in the desert wind.
Hot, humid and bright
Christ the desert conqueror
desperate, alone, tempted
breaking rivers and blossoming gardens
suffocating the shadows in our broken soul.

even while broken like the sand of the desert
His light comes through.
let your heart be broken by the heat of your humanness,
let your heart be broken by your own brokenness
and let him make it new.

I walk the desert road,
side by side with the desert Conqueror,
the one who walked the road himself
the road of suffering, the desert road.
