when deciding what comes next I

As I am only 5 months and 21 days away from my graduation ceremony, and as the time to apply for graduate school is getting shorter everyday, I try to ponder and understand what is the Lord calling me to do next: if pursuing a master's degree or working for a year so that I can rest. This week there were two biblical passages that helped me to settle up a bit. For those of you wondering what comes next, I hope this reflection on Ecclesiastes 2-3 and Ephesians 5 can in some way help you to set some boundaries in this decision making process.

Ecclesiastes 2:24-26
When deciding what comes next, make sure you are giving yourself to something in which your heart finds pleasure. Find enjoyment in your toil. Enjoying life and our work comes from the hand of the Lord. Why would we give ourselves to some kind of activity that we do not enjoy? To the one who pleases the Lord, he will give wisdom, knowledge and joy. The one who is working on something that does not really interest him, work only means gathering and collecting, and that is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 3:11-13
When deciding what comes next, keep eternity in your heart. Make sure that the activity in which you are getting involved expands the kingdom of God on earth. Be sure that God has made everything beautiful and his time, and a master's degree does not determine what you will do for the rest of your life. Whatever you do, make sure your toil is a source of joy and pleasure. Take pleasure in your toil because that is God's gift to men! And whatever you choose to do, be good. Be good as long as you live.
Ecclesiastes 3:16
When deciding what comes next, look at the world around you. How can you contribute to bring justice and righteousness to the world, as agents of peace and children of light? Not only consider yourself but the other. How can your future profession or job bless the world?
