Radical love

For years I have heard my parents tell us how they left everything a week after their wedding and became pastors of a small church in a very rural village in the middle of nowhere, three hours away from home. When I say small church in the middle of nowhere, that's exactly what I mean. There was nothing there, expect five hundred people, a few houses and all the basic commodities such as a gas station, a mail post, perhaps a small grocery store. No parents, no friends, no experience. Alone. Now, they were not in their thirties. They were exactly twenty one years old and God's call was just too strong to ignore. They embraced the call and stayed there for almost eight years doing the best they could, using all their gifts and depending on God every single day of the week.

Twenty five years later, I am in my twenties. My friends are in their twenties. And it brings me to tears to see a new generation living up their own stories of faith and owning them. Saying yes to Jesus in such a radical way that it shakes all social constructions and takes us out of our comfort zone. This radical obedience to God's voice truly brings us to the cross, to total dependance in Christ for our daily bread and I wouldn't have it any other way. It is overwhelmingly beautiful to see our close friends stepping out in faith and saying yes to the adventure that ministry is. My heart almost explodes seeing that. Could it be any different? I don't think so. How marvellous it is to be planted and flourish in the courts of the Lord, learning of his faithfulness and care for us.

O Lord, break my schemes of earthly joy so I may find my all in Thee.
