Sweet as honey
I have an Old Testament exam tomorrow, but I really cannot do anything else before writing this post because I am just too overwhelmed to process anything else. In this one course that I am taking on Christian Thought and Culture, we always have a small group discussion after the class and I have the privilege of sitting across the table with Rick Watts, professor of New Testament here at Regent. And indeed it is a privilege because his heart towards God and his love for the lost is just contagious to the point that he makes me almost scream of excitement as he talks! Also, tears. Lots of irreverent tears.
Today Rick took us on a journey through the Bible as we discussed the authority of Scripture. He started by talking about the apostles. Jesus invited them to be with him and to be sent out. Jesus, the Lord, Christ himself called the disciples one by one and invited them to be with him. The Apostle Paul, in the same way, heard God's voice on the road to Damascus. In the Old Testament, the prophets too were called and sent out. The ultimate prophet was Moses, and Moses himself, heard God's voice.
Scripture is authoritative because these life-giving writings are the result of those who heard Yahweh directly! The apostles have authority because these people witnessed Jesus' ministry and they heard his voice. This is just so overwhelmingly beautiful!
What grace that we get to sit here and just hear Yahweh speak to us if we seek him with all our heart! My heart is just exploding with thankfulness for how much I can trust God's word. It is completely safe! His word will never change! I am so grateful that his word is alive, active, and sharper than any double-edged sword! It is indeed God's very own word! So blown away by the beauty of Scripture and its authority yesterday, today and forevermore!!! Word that was in the beginning and that will forever be!! Word that has changed, changes us now and will continue to transform the hearts of those who receive it! How sweet is the word of God; just like honey!
O Lord, fill our hearts with holy reverence before your word.
May we have fresh eyes to see it and hearts that melt as you speak to us.

Thanks for sharing your joy Rebeca!! I also loved the lecture today. God's word, in all its authority and beauty, is absolutely incredible! Praise God for giving us his Word! Such a gift. :) (so many exclamation marks but still not enough haha)
